Hrvatska Banka's 1 Banica was issued in 1990 as Croatia moved toward independence from Yugoslavia — a transitional instrument produced before the Croatian dinar replaced Yugoslav currency in late 1991. The banica denomination, one-hundredth of a dinar in the proposed Croatian system, never achieved meaningful circulation as a standalone monetary unit; the broader currency reform overtook it almost immediately.
Printed in Zagreb, it is one of the few notes of this period produced domestically rather than contracted abroad.
