Wolf River Pub scrip of this kind — redeemable for a single beer — was a common enough promotional device for American bars and taverns, but New London's proximity to the Wolf River itself gives the issuer's name a geographic logic rather than a marketing one. Small-denomination scrip like this circulated as drink tokens, often handed out during promotions or distributed as change when a customer ran a tab. At 51 × 37 mm, it was sized to fit a shirt pocket without folding.
