BP and Supertest operated competing gasoline retail networks in Canada before BP acquired Supertest in 1971, briefly running both brands before consolidation. These small-denomination paper tokens were issued as promotional scrip — used to facilitate change at the pump or as part of loyalty schemes when coins were inconvenient in a service station context.

The dual branding makes dating this piece straightforward: it could only have been issued during the transitional period after the acquisition, when BP was running down the Supertest identity.
