Jamul Indian Village is a federally recognized Kumeyaay band located in San Diego County — not affiliated with the Chinook peoples of the Pacific Northwest by geography, language, or political history. The tribal gaming and sovereignty token market that emerged in the early 2000s produced many issues where the depicted nation and the issuing tribe bear no meaningful connection, this piece being a straightforward example of that commercial pattern.
