Obverse description The obverse presents a right-facing laureate effigy of Queen Elizabeth II in her first official portrait, modelled by Cecil Thomas, depicting a young queen wearing the George IV State Diadem over carefully dressed hair curled at the nape of the neck. The bust is rendered in high relief with fine detail in the diadem's pearls and ornamental settings. The peripheral legend QUEEN ELIZABETH THE SECOND runs around the full circumference within a raised beaded border that frames the entire design.
