| Obverse description | The obverse features a young, laureate effigy of Queen Victoria facing left, modeled in the style established by Leonard Charles Wyon. The portrait is uncrowned and depicts the Queen with her hair drawn back and bound with a diadem, rendered with fine medallic detail characteristic of specimen strikings. The legend VICTORIA DEI GRATIA REGINA encircles the upper portion of the coin, with CANADA positioned along the lower periphery.
