Obverse description Bare-headed left-facing effigy of King Edward VIII occupying the central field, rendered in high relief with naturalistically detailed hair. The portrait, attributed to the engraver Percy Metcalfe and bearing his initials 'DPO' below the truncation, conveys a modernist, unadorned style consistent with the king's personal aesthetic preferences. The circumferential Latin legend reads 'EDWARD VIII D:G:BR:OMN:REX', interrupted by the portrait, with a fine toothed border encircling the entire obverse.
