| Obverse description | Right-facing draped bust of Queen Elizabeth II wearing the George IV State Diadem and a pearl necklace, rendered in Raphael Maklouf's third effigy portrait. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs along the left periphery, while GIBRALTAR arcs along the upper right, and the date 1992 appears at the lower right. The effigy is set within a polished proof field with a fine toothed border. The portrait is accompanied by the engraver's initials RDM discreetly placed below the truncation. |

Gibraltar's Olympic commemorative program in the early 1990s was frankly opportunistic — the territory had no Olympic committee and no competing athletes, but crown-sized silver proofs were a reliable revenue stream aimed squarely at the collector market rather than circulation. The 1992 Barcelona Games generated a wave of such issues from British Overseas Territories, Gibraltar among the most prolific.
KM#66a is the silver proof variant of a base-metal type struck across two years to capture sales on both sides of the 1992 Games.
