Obverse description Plain cream paper note of typeset letterpress design, with a simple decorative chain-link border running the full perimeter. The initials "C.R." appear at upper centre alongside a manuscript date line and serial number positions at upper left and right. The central text, in a combination of roman and italic letterforms, carries the legal tender bearer clause. Handwritten entries for the serial number and treasurer's signature occupy ruled lines at lower left and right respectively.
Obverse lettering N.B. This NOTE is a legal tender, and payable at the Treasury, Levuka, on the First Tuesday in any Month C.R. Levuka, 187 No. No. TREASURY NOTE, ONE DOLLAR. The bearer of this is entitled to receive from the Treasury, Levuka, ONE DOLLAR Entered TREASURER
