| Obverse description | The brass centre features the national emblem of the Federated States of Micronesia: a sprouting breadfruit plant emerging from a stylised ocean wave, with four five-pointed stars arranged around it representing the four island states. A ribbon scroll below the plant bears the national motto in three parts. The date 1979, marking the year of the nation's constitution, appears in the lower field of the centre.
