Additional information

The Solomon Islands gained independence from Britain in July 1978, meaning coins dated 1977 carry the pre-independence issuing authority while those from 1978 onward reflect the newly sovereign state — both sharing the same KM#6 type. The series was struck at the Royal Mint's facility in Llantrisant, Wales, which had absorbed Commonwealth decimal coinage production following the closure of Tower Hill in 1975.
