| Reverse description | Central depiction of Tangaroa, the Polynesian god of the sea, rendered as a stylized carved idol figure standing in a crouching posture with arms folded across the torso, occupying the full height of the field. Fifteen five-pointed stars are arranged in a ring near the inner border, encircling the central device. The denomination $1 appears in large raised numerals to the left and right of the figure. The engraver's initials JB are incuse at the base of the figure near the lower rim. |

| Additional information |
Issued to mark the July 1981 marriage of Charles and Diana, this Cook Islands piece was one of dozens of Commonwealth commemoratives struck for the occasion — a flood of royal wedding coinage that saturated the market and left most examples in uncirculated condition simply because collectors had no reason to spend them. The Royal Mint itself had no monopoly on the event, leaving Pacific territories to commission their own issues through private minting arrangements.
