Additional information

Tuvalu's commemorative dollar program, administered through the Perth Mint, has issued dozens of historical ship series pieces since the early 2000s. The SMS Bismarck — the Imperial German cruiser, not the World War II battleship — served as the flagship of the East Asia Squadron and was present in the Caroline Islands during the German colonial period in the Pacific, giving Tuvalu a genuine, if slight, geographical justification for the subject.
