Additional information

The British Virgin Islands gained a separate coinage only in 1973, making this 1978 coronation jubilee issue part of an extremely young series. The 25th anniversary of the coronation prompted a wave of commemorative strikes across the Commonwealth, and the BVI — with its tiny population and no meaningful circulation economy for silver dollars — produced these almost exclusively for the collector market.
