Part of a broader Pacific island commemorative push in the early 2000s, when Tuvalu — a nation of roughly 10,000 people with virtually no domestic minting capacity — contracted foreign facilities to produce collector-oriented issues that far outnumbered the actual population. Dromaeosaurus itself was a small theropod known almost exclusively from a single fragmentary skull found in Alberta in 1914, making it an odd choice for commemorative treatment given how little of the animal's anatomy has ever been confirmed from fossil evidence.
