Pitcairn issued this dollar in 1989 partly as a revenue coin — the island's population at the time numbered fewer than sixty people, making any domestic circulation essentially fictional. The Bounty connection is the obvious hook, but the historical detail worth noting is that Fletcher Christian's descendants were still living on Pitcairn when this was struck, as they are today.
