Bermuda issued this dollar as part of a wave of millennium coinage that flooded Commonwealth mints in 1999 and 2000, most of it destined for collectors rather than tills. The island's small population and heavy reliance on tourism meant circulation coinage was already something of a formality by this period — local commerce ran heavily on the U.S. dollar in parallel.
