Belize issued a series of silver proof wildlife dollars through the late 1980s and early 1990s, largely aimed at the collector market rather than circulation — a funding mechanism the Central Bank leaned on heavily during a period when the country was still working through the debt restructuring that followed the early-1980s economic crisis.
