Obverse description The national arms of Trinidad and Tobago occupies the central field, rendered in high relief with fine detail: a shield bearing two ships and a castle, supported by a hummingbird to the left and an ibis to the right, with a ship's wheel as crest above a helmet, and a scrolled ribbon below carrying the national motto in two parts. The circular legend 'REPUBLIC OF TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO' arcs around the upper periphery in bold raised Latin letters, while the motto 'TOGETHER WE ASPIRE TOGETHER WE ACHIEVE' appears on the ribbon beneath the shield. The date '1982' is positioned prominently in the lower field, with the Franklin Mint privy mark visible just above it.

Reverse description A finely detailed Cocrico bird (Rufous-vented Chachalaca, Ortalis ruficauda), the national bird of Tobago, is depicted perched upon a bare branch in the central and right portion of the field, its wings partially raised and head turned to face right. The denomination 'ONE DOLLAR' appears in two lines to the left of the bird in the mid-field. The commemorative legend 'TWENTIETH ANNIVERSARY OF INDEPENDENCE' curves around the full upper and right periphery in bold raised Latin letters, completing the circular design against the mirror-polished proof field.
