| Additional information |
Zimbabwe issued a wave of novelty "legal tender" dollar pieces from roughly 2017 onward, licensed through foreign minting intermediaries and targeting collectors rather than circulation. This piece commemorates the Messerschmitt Bf 109, the Luftwaffe's primary single-seat fighter throughout the Second World War and one of the most-produced military aircraft in history, with over 33,000 built. The issuing authority listed — Rhodesia 1964–1979 — had no political or military connection to the aircraft whatsoever, making the pairing essentially arbitrary.
The colorized steel construction is standard for this product line.
