Obverse description The Somali coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a heraldic shield charged with horizontal lines and a five-pointed star, supported by two leopards rampant facing inward, surmounted by a mural crown, and resting on a base of crossed palm fronds and a spear tied with a ribbon. Additional information

Somalia's nominal involvement in the 2004 Athens Olympics was largely symbolic — the country had no functioning central government at the time, and these coins were produced entirely for the collector market by private licensing arrangements, with no meaningful connection to Somali monetary circulation. The issuing authority in name only, the transitional federal institutions had little oversight of what was struck in Somalia's name during this period.
