Casino chips and slot tickets dominate gaming floor transactions today, but Palms Casino Resort — opened in 2001 on Flamingo Road just west of the Strip — issued paper scrip as promotional currency during its early years, when the property was aggressively building its brand against established Strip competitors. These notes circulated internally as promotional instruments, redeemable under specific conditions set by the casino's marketing department rather than functioning as general-purpose gaming currency.
Jonie Kerekes served as a cage cashier supervisor, whose signature authenticated the scrip as an internal control measure — standard practice for Nevada gaming establishments issuing redeemable paper instruments under state gaming commission oversight.
