| Obverse description | The obverse is printed in green and rust-red tones on a cream ground, with an elaborate guilloche underprint covering the entire field. At the top, the bank title 'PEIYANG TIENTSIN BANK' is set within a decorative banner flanked by scrollwork. Two confronted dragon vignettes in intaglio occupy the upper register, framing a central oval cartouche bearing the large Chinese denomination character 壹圓 (One Dollar) alongside vertical anti-counterfeiting text. To the lower left, an oval vignette presents an intaglio view of the bank building, while to the lower right a corresponding oval carries a portrait of an elderly Chinese official in traditional dress. Corner numerals '1' and Chinese characters appear at each margin. |
