Obverse description Within a central circle, the national emblems of Eritrea are depicted: a dromedary camel, a palm tree, and a traditional dhow sailing on the sea. A trilingual legend encircles the design along the toothed rim, rendered in Tigrinya (Ge'ez script), English, and Arabic, each grouping separated by star ornaments. The date 1993 and the Pobjoy Mint privy mark 'PM' appear at the base of the legend.
Obverse script Arabic, Ge`ez, Latin

Reverse description Three pteranodons are depicted in dynamic, naturalistic relief: two large specimens in full flight dominate the upper field with wings broadly extended, their elongated cranial crests and characteristic beaks rendered in fine detail, while a third, smaller individual is shown perched or landing on rocky terrain in the lower field. The species name 'PTERANODON' is inscribed in the left mid-field in Latin lettering. The conservation legend 'PRESERVE PLANET EARTH' arcs around the upper periphery, and the denomination '$1' appears prominently at the base, flanked by two raised dots.
