| Obverse description | Central device consisting of a circular globe-like motif filled with five horizontal wavy lines symbolizing a river, all set against a darkened field. The central device is surrounded by a dotted inner border. The legend 'JAMUL SOVEREIGN NATION' arcs along the upper periphery, while 'NATIVE INDIAN NATIONS IN AMERICA' arcs along the lower periphery, both in a stylized rustic Latin typeface. The overall design evokes the cultural and geographical identity of Native American river peoples. |

| Additional information |
The Rappahannock are a Virginia Algonquian people whose territory lay along the river bearing their name — far removed, geographically and politically, from the Jamul Indian Village of San Diego County, California. Jamul is a Kumeyaay community. The pairing here reflects the broader Native American dollar program structure, in which issuing authority and depicted tribe need not share any historical or cultural connection.
