| Reverse description | The crowned Royal Arms of Spain, quartered with the castles of Castile and the lions of León, with a central escutcheon bearing the fleurs-de-lis of the Bourbon dynasty, occupies the central field. The shield is surmounted by a royal crown of elaborate form rendered in fine relief. The mint mark NR (Nuevo Reino, for Bogotá) and the assayer's initials JV flank the base of the arms in the lower field. The surrounding Latin legend IN·UTROQ·FELIX·NR·JV encircles the design, referring to the motto IN UTROQ FELIX AUSPICE DEO (Happy in both worlds under God's guidance). |
