Lithuania joined the EU in May 2004 but did not adopt the euro until 2015. In the intervening years, the Bank of Lithuania commissioned trial strikings to test dies, planchets, and mint production readiness — this is one of those pieces. Such essais were never released for circulation and exist in very small quantities, produced primarily for archival and technical evaluation purposes.
