Crédit Agricole issued this brass token during the broader French privately-minted "euro" promotional wave of the late 1990s, when hundreds of retailers, banks, and municipalities produced their own unofficial euro-denominated pieces ahead of the single currency's 1999 launch. These were never legal tender and carried no exchange guarantee, functioning instead as loyalty instruments and public familiarity tools during the transition period.
