| Obverse description | Left-facing crowned effigy of King George VI, wearing the Imperial State Crown rendered in fine detail, engraved by Percy Metcalfe whose initials 'PM' appear in small letters below the truncation. The royal portrait is executed in high relief against a smooth field. The circular legend reads 'GEORGE VI KING EMPEROR' arranged around the periphery, with 'GEORGE VI' to the upper left and 'KING EMPEROR' to the right and lower right. A fine beaded border encloses the design. |

| Reverse description | Central device depicting the quartered shield of the Fiji colonial coat of arms, featuring in the chief a passant lion on a field, and in the four quarters: sugar cane, a coconut palm, a dove with olive branch, and a bunch of bananas, all rendered in crisp relief. The date is divided on either side of the shield, '19' to the left and '42' (or '43') to the right. The legend 'FIJI' arcs across the upper field and 'FLORIN' curves along the lower field in bold incuse lettering. The San Francisco Mint 'S' mintmark appears below the shield near the base. A beaded border surrounds the entire reverse design. |
