Obverse description Left-facing draped bust of Marianne, the allegorical figure of the French Republic, wearing a winged helmet adorned with a cockade. Her flowing hair falls in waves behind her neck. In the lower field on either side of the bust, maritime vessels are depicted in low relief, symbolizing French colonial trade and naval power. The engraver's signature BAZOR appears at the lower left of the bust, flanked by the Monnaie de Paris mint marks, with the date 1948 inscribed at the bottom. The encircling legend reads REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE UNION FRANCAISE.
