| Additional information |
Clipperton is a uninhabited coral atoll in the eastern Pacific, roughly 1,000 kilometers off the Mexican coast, whose sovereignty France has quietly maintained since a 1931 arbitration ruling by King Victor Emmanuel III of Italy. It has no permanent population, no economy, and no practical use for a franc. TAAF issues coins for Clipperton as administrative formality — collectibles dressed as legal tender for a territory that will never see circulation.
