Monaco's franc coinage under Rainier III ran parallel to the French franc at a fixed 1:1 parity under the 1963 Franco-Monégasque monetary convention, which gave the Principality the right to mint limited quantities of its own coinage while remaining within the French currency zone. Because mintage figures were capped and much of the output was absorbed by collectors rather than circulation, genuinely worn examples are harder to find than pristine ones.
