Obverse description Central orb surmounted by a cross, set within a trilobe or trefoil frame, all within a beaded inner circle. The orb symbolizes imperial authority and is rendered in a bold, Gothic hammered style. A circular legend in Latin uncial lettering surrounds the central device within a beaded border, reading MAXIMILIANVS ROMA REX. The overall composition is characteristic of late 15th-century Rhenish goldgulden coinage.

Reverse description St. John the Baptist depicted standing slightly to the right, wearing a nimbus crown and holding the Agnus Dei (lamb) before him, as is standard on Frankfurt goldgulden of this type. A coat of arms of Frankfurt appears in the lower field beneath the saint's feet. The figure is rendered in the Gothic hammered style typical of late medieval German coinage. A circular Latin legend in uncial lettering surrounds the figure, with the date 1494 incorporated into the inscription.
