Herzogenbusch — known to the Dutch as Kamp Vught — was the only SS-administered concentration camp established on Dutch soil, operational from early 1943. This internal currency was issued not as a prisoner benefit but as a control mechanism: inmates could theoretically exchange camp scrip for canteen goods, but supply was deliberately erratic and the system functioned primarily to strip deportees of any remaining Reichsmarks on arrival.
The red paper is distinctive within the broader category of Nazi camp scrip, most of which runs to dull greys and greens. Whether the color choice was administrative or incidental to available stock is unrecorded.
