| Obverse description | Crude depiction of a horseman in the later Kangra style, rendered in low relief on a dumpy fabric flan. The rider faces right, seated upon a horse shown in profile, with the figure and mount rendered in a schematic, abbreviated manner characteristic of late medieval Indian copper coinage. The overall design reflects the degenerate artistic tradition of the Kangra mint series. |

Karma Chandra Deva ruled Kangra during a period when the hill kingdoms of the northwestern Himalayas were navigating the fractured aftermath of Timur's 1398 invasion of the subcontinent, which had shattered Delhi Sultanate authority and briefly opened space for regional rulers to consolidate local power. The Katoch dynasty, to which Kangra's rulers belonged, had deep roots in the region — claimed among the oldest continuously ruling houses in recorded Indian history — though the mid-15th century issues remain among the least documented in the series.
AKJ#604 is a scarce attribution, with few examples recorded in institutional collections.
