Additional information

Rukn ud-din Ibrahim ruled the Delhi Sultanate for a matter of months in 1236, yet jitals attributed to his name appear under later administrative contexts — this piece, dated to 1296, falls within the reign of Alauddin Khalji, whose early coinage continued issuing billon jitals under inherited regal names as a matter of mint convention rather than political continuity. The jital itself was the workhorse denomination of northern Indian trade for centuries, debased progressively as successive sultans strained their treasuries funding military campaigns into the Deccan.
