Obverse description The obverse bears the historic Croatian coat of arms in the central field, rendered in the traditional chequerboard (šahovnica) pattern. Above the shield appears the Ustasha symbol 'U', enclosed within a Croatian interlace ornament featuring a three-ribbon plaitwork design. The upper legend reads NEZAVISNA DRŽAVA and the lower legend reads HRVATSKA, together forming the full inscription of the Independent State of Croatia, separated from the field by the coin's raised rim.
