Obverse description Central field occupied by a two-line Arabic legend in raised relief, the script rendered in a characteristically compact and somewhat crude hammered style typical of early Southeast Asian Islamic coinage. The entire inscription is contained within a raised beaded border that follows the irregular round flan. The lettering reads 'Muhammad Malik al-Tahir', identifying the ruling sultan by name and honorific epithet.

Reverse description Central field bearing a two-line Arabic legend in raised relief, executed in the same hammered technique as the obverse, with boldly rendered but somewhat irregular letterforms filling the available field. A continuous beaded border encircles the inscription, following the coin's irregular flan periphery. The legend reads 'al-Sultan al-Adil', conferring upon the ruler the Islamic honorific of 'the just sultan'.
