Obverse description The obverse field is entirely occupied by a multi-line Arabic inscription rendered in an elegant calligraphic script, filling the coin's face from rim to rim. The legend reads the full royal title and name of the reigning sultan, Sultan Mohammed Shams ad-din Iskander, arranged in three sweeping curved lines across the field. The lettering is bold and deeply struck in relief against a granular bronze field, with no border ornament other than the raised rim. The calligraphic style reflects the Maldivian tradition of Arabic-script coinage, with fluid, interlocking letterforms characteristic of the early twentieth-century sultanate issues.
