| Obverse description | The winged Lion of St. Mark, the heraldic symbol of the Ionian State, is depicted in profile striding to the left with a nimbus (halo) above its head. The lion holds an open Bible adorned with a cross in its left forepaw and a bundle of seven arrows in its right forepaw, symbolising the seven Ionian islands. The Greek legend ΙΟΝΙΚΟΝ ΚΡΑΤΟΣ (Ionian State) is arranged around the upper periphery, flanking the central device, with the date positioned in the exergue below. The coin's border is formed by a continuous beaded rim. |
