| Obverse description | The square-format obverse, oriented diagonally, depicts a detailed high-relief rendering of the historic stone main gate building of the American University of Beirut, flanked by palm fronds visible in the upper left field. At the centre of the composition is a shaped agate insert occupying the archway aperture, representing the arched opening of the gate. The denomination '1 LIVRE' appears in Latin script in the upper left, with the Arabic equivalent 'ا ليرة' to its right. Along the lower edge, the issuer legend 'BANQUE DU LIBAN' is inscribed in Latin script, flanked by the date '2016' in both Western and Eastern Arabic numerals, with the Cedar of Lebanon emblem at centre below. |
