Freetown Christiania — the self-declared autonomous neighborhood in Copenhagen — issued its own internal currency, the Løn, as a deliberate rejection of Danish state authority. Prince Henrik, consort to Queen Margrethe II, visited Christiania in 2014, an occasion unusual enough to warrant a commemorative issue from a community that had spent decades in legal conflict with the Danish government over its very right to exist.
