| Obverse description | The field is occupied entirely by a Persian-script couplet in bold Naskh calligraphy, arranged in three horizontal registers separated by ruled lines. The upper register carries the opening hemistich of the royal poetic legend, the central and largest register bears the name and titles of the Mughal emperor Shah Alam II together with the regnal year (julus) numeral 15, and the lower register records the Hijri date 1202 and the mint name Calcutta (Kalkatta). Decorative dot rosettes punctuate the interlinear spaces throughout the field. The coin is struck within a finely reeded border. |

The upper register presents the second hemistich of the royal couplet. The central register bears the julus formula with the regnal year of Shah Alam II, flanked by star-shaped floral ornaments and dot rosettes serving as decorative dividers. The lower register records the mint name Murshidabad (Murshidabad) in large script. The whole design is enclosed within a finely reeded border consistent with the milled coinage standard of the Bengal Presidency. |
