Obverse description Cast copper cash-type coin featuring a central square perforation enclosed by a raised square border. Four large Chinese characters are disposed in the four cardinal quadrants of the field, reading clockwise from the top: 長 (chō), 年 (nen), 大 (tai), 寳 (hō), forming the legend 'Chōnentaihō' (Great Treasure of Many Years). The characters are rendered in regular script (kaisho) style with bold, well-defined strokes. A plain raised rim encircles the outer field. The surface displays an ancient patina of dark brown and olive tones with areas of verdigris.
