Obverse description Cast brass cash-type coin with a central square hole. The obverse bears four Chinese characters arranged in the traditional reading order around the central perforation: 常平 (Sangpyeong) reading top to bottom, denoting the Joseon-era Sangpyeong Bureau, and 通寶 (Tongbo) reading right to left, meaning 'circulating treasure' or currency. The characters are rendered in regular script (kaishu) within a plain, unadorned field, consistent with the standard Sangpyongtonbo coinage of the Joseon Dynasty.
