Additional information

Bhutan's Royal Monetary Authority was itself only established in 1982, meaning these pieces were issued under a transitional authority preceding it — the timing coincides with Jigme Singye Wangchuck's coronation in 1974, the fourth Druk Gyalpo, who ascended the throne at nineteen following his father's sudden death. The ngultrum series launched that year represented Bhutan's first systematic decimal coinage, replacing a currency system that had relied heavily on Indian rupees circulating at par.

The 1975 date is notably scarcer in surviving examples, with the 1974 issue dominating most collections.
