Reverse description Central square frame divided into a grid of nine compartments, each containing Devanagari syllables spelling the dedicatory legend to Pashupatinath and Nepal. A crescent moon and the honorific श्री appear above the square. The field surrounding the central square is adorned with a continuous decorative scroll and floral border, consistent in style with the obverse, giving the coin a uniform aesthetic characteristic of late Rana-era Nepalese copper coinage.

Additional information

Prithvi Bir Bikram Shah reigned under the near-total political dominance of Prime Minister Dev Shumsher and then Chandra Shumsher Rana, the Shah kings functioning largely as ceremonial figures during this period. These copper paisas circulated through a Nepal still formally closed to most foreign contact, with the Ranas controlling both treasury and trade policy.
