Additional information

Prithvi Bir Bikram Shah died in 1911, but Nepal continued issuing coins in his name for decades afterward — a consequence of the Rana oligarchy's practice of maintaining the reigning Shah king as a largely ceremonial figurehead while the hereditary Prime Ministers held actual power. Coins bearing his name and era persisted well past his death, meaning this 1945–1948 issue was struck under Juddha Shumsher Rana and then Padma Shumsher Rana, neither of whom appeared on the coinage at all.
