Reverse description The reverse displays a boldly struck eight-pointed star formed by two overlapping squares, occupying the majority of the coin's field, a decorative geometric motif commonly used on Ottoman provincial copper coinage of this era. A small central pellet or boss marks the exact centre of the star. The points of the star nearly reach the edge of the flan, and a border of small dots or notches runs along the periphery of the coin. The design is deeply and crisply impressed relative to the obverse, suggesting a well-maintained reverse die. The overall composition is simple and emblematic, consistent with North African Ottoman hammered coinage of the early nineteenth century.
