Additional information

Struck under Olav Kyrre, whose long and unusually peaceful reign following the catastrophe at Stamford Bridge in 1066 allowed Norwegian royal coinage to stabilize after decades of turbulent succession. These pennies follow the Anglo-Saxon penny closely in module and style, a direct consequence of English moneyers working in Scandinavian mints during the eleventh century.

Skaare 25 is among the better-documented types from this reign, though die studies remain incomplete and attribution of individual specimens can hinge on subtle runic or Latin legend variants.
